Using natural resources for activities is a super fun way to teach children about the world around them and look at objects in a different way!

Our children are growing up in an age with technology at the centre of it, at BKD we like to encourage kids to put down the ipads and get creative! Children love to play outside and collect flowers, pebbles, leaves or anything they can get their hands on, so why not use it?

Painting pebbles is a great way to end a day at the beach or a trip to the forest. Your Mini Baker will love collecting and admiring all the different shaped stones. Why not get them brainstorming their ideas whilst doing this, ready for when they paint them later.

Follow our guide below and get some inspiration from our BKD artist. As this month’s theme is Open Oceans our favourite sea creatures have inspired us in our pebble designs.

Why not use this activity as a talking point to discuss ocean pollution with your child and how we can help decrease it. Print out our Sea Defender Printable, and learn how to decrease your plastic use.

Tools

pebbles
pencil
acrylic paint
paintbrushes
glass of water
colour mixing dish

step by Step guide

STEP 1

Pick your pebbles. Big, flat pebbles are the best surface for painting on.

STEP 2

Decide what you want to paint on to your pebbles. Draw your designs with a pencil. Use your imagination, you could paint sea creatures like us, a portrait of your pet or your favourite storybook character.

STEP 3

Use the paint and paintbrush to paint your pebbles. Use the water to clean your paintbrush before using a different colour. Tip: wait for the bottom layer of paint to dry before adding details to your design. This way it won’t smudge.

STEP 4

Allow the paint to dry. Yay you’re all done. Display them in your garden or around your house for all your friends and family to see. Or how about giving one as a gift!
